Make a 3D Kaleidoscope Card:
It's hard to tell by the scan but the kaleidoscope design on this card is actually 3D. If you have trouble understanding these instructions, you may want to start with anyoccasionproject3.html. That project explains more thoroughly how to create 3D greeting cards.

Kaleidoscope tiles made for tea bag folding and other projects can also be used to make 3D greeting cards. We made this card by printing out 4 identical kaleidoscope tiles(printables option 2). We then selected areas within the large design to cut into smaller shapes. Printables option 1 actually shows a scan of each of the four tiles after each has been cut into smaller and smaller images. Beginners unsure of where to cut the full size tiles can use printables option 1 for this project.
If you would like to complete this project using option 2 but don't like the idea of wasted ink, here's an idea. If you cut along the dark black lines to get to the part you will be cutting out, the tile can then be taped together from the back and used as a mini frame for another project. We cut along the black lines to get to the portion we wanted to cut out in case a gap showed when we taped it back together. That area could be then covered with a black marker if needed. Mount it onto a piece of coordinating card stock after inserting a picture or other image and here's just one of the mini frames we ended up with after using the option 2 printables for this project.

To assemble this card, start with a 5 inch by 7 inch pre-folded blank red greeting card or cut and fold your own. From black card stock cut a square that is 3.5 inches by 3.5 inches for mounting your 3D kaleidoscope design. Cut another piece that is 1.5 inches by 3.5 inches to go behind the printable greeting.
To assemble the kaleidoscope design, first glue the full sized tile to the square piece of black card stock to create a border around it. Now, using foam pads or double sided foam tape mount piece #2(shown in printables option 1) to your card lining it up with the previous piece. Do the same thing with the pieces 3 and 4. The foam pads between each layer will give the finished card a 3D effect.
If you would like to try this project using option 2 but with different tiles and your own greeting or embellishments, here are a few tiles to try. Click on the thumbnails to print 4 of each enlarged tile.
